Maintenance and assembly of diaphragm couplings

A diaphragm coupling consists of several sets of diaphragms bolted alternately to the two halves of the coupling. Each set of diaphragms is composed of several stacked diaphragms. Diaphragms are divided into connecting rod type and different shapes of integral type. The Otis diaphragm coupling relies on the elastic deformation of the diaphragms to compensate for the relative displacement of the two connected shafts. It is a high-performance metal strong element flexible coupling that requires no lubrication, has a compact structure, high strength, long service life, no rotational clearance, is not affected by temperature and oil stains, and has the characteristics of acid and alkali corrosion resistance. It is suitable for shaft transmission in high-temperature, high-speed, and corrosive medium working environments. A diaphragm coupling consists of at least one diaphragm and two sleeves. The diaphragm is fastened to the sleeve with pins and generally will not loosen or cause backlash between the diaphragm and the sleeve. Some manufacturers offer two diaphragms, and some offer three diaphragms, with one or two rigid components in the middle, and then connected to the sleeves on both sides. The difference between a single-diaphragm coupling and a double-diaphragm coupling lies in their ability to handle various deviations. Given the need for complex bending of the diaphragm, a single-diaphragm coupling is less suitable for eccentricity. The Otis double-diaphragm coupling can bend in different directions simultaneously to compensate for eccentricity. Widely used in the shaft transmission of various mechanical devices, such as water pumps (especially high-power, chemical pumps), fans, compressors, hydraulic machinery, petroleum machinery, printing machinery, textile machinery, chemical machinery, mining machinery, metallurgical machinery, aviation (helicopters), ship high-speed power transmission systems, steam turbines, piston power machinery transmission systems, tracked vehicles, and high-speed, high-power mechanical transmission systems of generator sets. After dynamic balancing, it has become quite common in high-speed transmission shafts.
