Basic steps for coupling selection

发布时间:2021-04-16 11:54

Based on the size of the transmitted load, the high and low speed of the shaft, and the installation accuracy of the two connected parts, refer to the characteristics of various couplings to select a suitable coupling type. Specific selection can consider the following points: 1) The required size and nature of the transmitted torque and the requirements for buffering and damping functions. For example, for high-power, heavy-duty transmission, a drum-shaped gear coupling can be selected; for severe impact loads or transmission requiring elimination of torsional vibration of the shaft system, a coupling with a high-elasticity pin coupling, such as a tire-type coupling, can be selected. 2) The high and low working speed of the coupling and the size of the centrifugal force generated. For high-speed transmission shafts, couplings with high balancing accuracy should be selected, such as diaphragm couplings, and eccentric slider couplings should not be selected. 3) The size and direction of the relative displacement between the two shafts. When it is difficult to maintain strict and precise alignment of the two shafts after installation and adjustment, or when the two shafts will generate a larger additional relative displacement during operation, a flexible pin coupling should be selected. For example, when the radial displacement is large, a slider coupling can be selected, and a universal coupling can be selected for a large angular displacement or connection of intersecting shafts. 4) The reliability and working environment of the coupling. Couplings made of metal drum-shaped gear couplings that do not require lubrication are generally more reliable; couplings that require lubrication are easily affected by the degree of lubrication and may pollute the environment. Couplings containing rubber and other non-metallic drum-shaped gear couplings are sensitive to temperature, corrosive media, and strong light, and are prone to aging. 5) Installation, maintenance, and cost of the coupling. Under the premise of meeting the usability performance, couplings that are easy to install and disassemble, easy to maintain, and low in cost should be selected. Factors to consider when selecting a coupling. For example, rigid elastic pin couplings are not only simple in structure but also easy to install and disassemble, and can be used for low-speed, high-rigidity transmission shafts. General non-metallic elastic pin couplings (such as elastic sleeve pin couplings, elastic pin couplings, and plum blossom-shaped elastic pin couplings), due to their good comprehensive capabilities, are widely used in general medium and small power transmissions.
